About Tylenol

In 1955, Tylenol was introduced as Tylenol Elixir for children available with prescription only.  It was the first aspirin-free pain reliever invented by McNeil Pharmacy in Philadelphia, USA.  Johnson & Johnson bought McNeil in 1959, and Tylenol was approved for purchase without prescription, including the Tylenol for Adults in Regular Strength.  It became one of the best-selling analgesics in the US in the 1970s and eventually became the No.1 Health and Beauty Aid product in the United States!  Tylenol went on to release its Extra Strength variation in gel caps in the 1980s, arthritis and cold Tylenol products in the 1990s, and Rapid Release Gels in the 2000s, forming the well-loved product range we know today.
