About Ghirardelli

Domenico Ghirardelli was born in Rapallo, Italy, in 1817 and embarked on a journey that would lead him to become a name synonymous with quality chocolate. From a young age, he got into the world of chocolates, learning the craft from a local candy maker who he apprenticed with. By 1847, Ghirardelli changed his Italian first name to its Spanish equivalent, Domingo,  and decided to bring his passion for chocolates to America. By 1849, he set up a store in Stockton, California, selling supplies to miners and, of course, his signature chocolates. Not long after, he opened another store in San Francisco, marking the beginning of a legacy. Today, Ghirardelli stands as a testament to passion, innovation, and the relentless pursuit of crafting the finest chocolates.
