Easter Crafts You Can Make at Home

Revelers of springtime have been decorating Easter eggs since at least the 13th Century. It’s a creative tradition that brings families together to celebrate new life. But there’s so much more to do with Easter eggs than just collecting them in baskets. Take a peek at our Easter egg crafts to incorporate the colorful symbol of the holiday into the entire celebration.

Easter Egg Tree

Christmas shouldn’t be the only holiday with a tree! Create a mini (and much easier) version for Easter by collecting an assortment of thin branches and securing them in a vase. Add Easter eggs as ornaments by painting polystyrene or wooden eggs in your favorite springtime colors. Insert a pin to fasten a looped ribbon on top and hang the eggs from the branches.

For a personal touch, ask each family member to write a blessing or hope on an egg. Store the decorations and relive the memories each year as your family rereads the holiday wishes.

Paint Chip Garland

Still holding onto those paint chips from redesigning the living room? Now’s the perfect time to repurpose them into a cheerful

strand of Easter egg garland. Cut coordinating egg shapes from a variety of shade cards and use a needle and thread to string the eggs together to form a vibrant decoration that the whole family can enjoy.

Want an even more personalized strand? Get little ones involved by using markers to draw designs and patterns on the eggs. It’s a great opportunity to reinforce color recognition, pattern play and the color wheel in festive way.

Plastic Bunny Buddies

Craft along with the kids to create playful pals using plastic Easter eggs. You can make bunnies, carrots and other Easter-themed friends to use as decorations or toys.

Find the holes in the top of each egg or use a pair of scissors to poke a small hole or two. To create a rabbit, feed a pipe cleaner through the holes and fold it to create two long bunny ears. Glue googley eyes and a pom pom nose on the front of the egg and use a permanent marker to add a smile and whiskers.

You and your little crafter can design a menagerie of animals, like spring chicks and ducks, or even treats for your bunny buddies. To make a carrot, use an orange egg and simply feed a green pipe cleaner through the top to form the stem. Bring the veggie to life with a pair of eyes and a smile, or simply leave as is for a cute addition to your Easter décor.

Easter Egg Card

A cracked egg is only a good thing when you’re surprising loved ones with a hand-crafted Easter egg card. Cut out two identical egg shapes from card stock. Use a pair of scissors to cut one egg in half horizontally in a zigzag pattern. Overlay the cracked egg pieces on top of the second egg and connect the card stock together so that the top egg opens and closes smoothly.

Decorate the outer layer and write a thoughtful message on the inside of the card to share your Easter wishes.

There are countless ways to incorporate the timeless emblem of spring into your holiday with Easter egg crafts. Whether you're dying hard-boiled eggs, stuffing plastic eggs with candy or cutting out egg-shaped cards, they always remind us of the renewed hope of spring and the promises of Easter.
